Amanita calyptroderma  G.F. Atk. & V.G. Ballen (1909)                *Spring Form

This is the Spring form of Amanita calyptroderma, but almost certainly it should be recognized as a separate species or a variety. Its habitat is very diverse. It is common in the evergreen and deciduous Oak forests of the State, but its primary habitat are the conifer forests of Sierra Nevada where it fruits prolifically almost every year.
