Agaricus lilaceps   Zeller (1938)

This is one of the giant Agaricus species that seems to be nearly endemic to the Monterey, California area and occurs there with Monterey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa). Several other collection locations along the coast have been noted too where Monterey cypress has been planted. The name comes from the fact that the species tend to turn lilac to orange under certain circumstances.
