Amanita DB3576                                                         *Collections Sierra Nevada

This Amanita, Section Vaginatae occurs in the summer in the high elevations of Sierra Nevada (10,000 ft/3,000m) under Lodgepole pine. The browning tendencies of the universal veil are quite distinct. There is no taxon described from California that matches it. Very distant affinity can be drawn to Amanita protecta, but the habitat and other features separate them.
