Amanita novinupta  Tulloss & J. Lindgr. (1994)                                               *Collections: Calfiornia

Amanita novinupta in Calfironia seems to be a complex of 2 or more species. The most common variety fruits in the Spring where it is abundant under Live Oak. There are Fall fruitings in mixed woods that may represent a very similar, but different species. For a long time this species was confused with the European Amanita rubescens, which I personally do not find particularly similar although that they are both in the same Section -- Validae.
