Amanita phalloides is
probably the deadliest macromycete and
the one everyone should learn to recognize first. Believed to be non-native to
California and the Pacific Northwest, Amanita phalloides has
achieved a tremendously fast paced expansion. Evidence suggests that the
species was introduced along multiple points of insertion in the last
100 years via imported Oak trees. Some specimens that were examined
molecularly have been linked directly to European populations. |
