Sarcoscypha coccinea (Jacq.) Sacc. (1889)

This is one of the prettiest and most easily recognizable Ascomycetes. According to a recent article,  it appears that what we have in California is the true S. coccinea, instead of S. austriaca and S. dudleyi from the Eastern NA.
