Boletus coniferarum [Dick & Snell]

This species is quite similar to B. calopus var  frustosus, but lacks any red color on the upper stipe. At the same time it fullu qualifies for the epitet "Bitter Butter Bolete" Equally buttery and bitter. Distribution: Alaska to Oregon, under conifers. I have never seen it in California. Based on my observations in Oregon, I suspect that it is associated with Tsuga sp.
