This beautiful Bolete tends to fruit early in the season in the
coastal areas of Northern California in the
Sequoia/Pseudotsuga/Lithocarpus forest floor.
The non-reticulate,
red pored, bluing Boletes like this one are contained in Section
Erythropodes. As far as the name erythropus is
concerned, it should be noted that Singer did not like that name
applied to our collections and pointed out numerous major and minor
differences against the European material. The alternative name
B. subvelutipes is that of an Eastern NA species that also
doesn't fit, according to Thiers and Dick & Snell. |
