Clitocybe plana Velen. (1920)                                                                   *Collections from California

Per Bigelow's interpretation of Clitocybe plana from California, the grass habitat is quite distinct for this species. Otherwise that epithet is not well known and very infrequently applied even to material from Europe. Clitocybe oramophila is listed as another grass dweller, but with a much stronger anise odor. The gills tend to darken in age to sordid brownish.
Spores: 5.2-6 x 3-3.5   Odor: faintly to slightly aromatic. Taste: none
