This species fruits regularly in the same spot in a Berkeley (California) Park and appears to be undescribed. It shows some affinity to the Eastern American Gymnopus dichrous, but differs microscopically. The strongly pubescent stipe suggests a similar, but much smaller undescribed species from California Gymnopus DB50519.
