Gymnopus villosipes  (Cleland) Desjardin, Halling & B.A. Perry (1997)   *Collections: California

This species is quite common in California, both in montane and coastal forests. There is an interesting story associated with it -- it was believed to be undescribed for a long time, until Desjardin discovered a matching description from Australia when performing type studies over there. Apparently, Cleland collected it under imported Monterey Pine (Pinus radiata), which supports the contention that this species came  from California too.
