Cortinarius bibulus  Quél. (1881)                                                                            *Collection: Oregon
Syn: Cortinarius americanus A.H. Smith (1934)

This "easy to ignore", tiny lilac-brown Cortinarius is associated with Alnus (Alder) trees. A.H. Smith described it as Cortinarius americanus in 1934, but later (1944) synonymized it with the European C. bibulus. Smith does mention that he had not inspected C. bibulus material first hand, so I believe that additional regional research is needed in order to support/reject such synonymy.
