Cortinarius malachius   (Fr.) Fr. 1838                                                        Collections: Europe

This is one of the classic Friesian species, which is fairly common in the coniferous forests from Fennoscandia to Southern Europe. There are number of malachius-like species in North America, which differ little or more form the original concept. One of the common features of the species in this group is the thin white veil covering of the stipe that can easily be rubbed off.
