| This beautiful blue Cortinarius is fairly common in the Olympic Peninsula in the State of Washington where Alexander Smith described it from. The distinct "plumbago grey" overall color and purplish discoloration upon bruising and squashing, less so on clean cutting is quite distinct. A similar species is Cortinarius occidentalis, which has a marginated bulb on the stipe. | ||
