Cortinarius obtusus (Fr.) Fr. (1838) *Collections: PNW
The complex of species around Cortinarius obtusus (Section Obtusi) contains some rather non-descript, small, Telamonias with somewhat Galerinoid stature. One of the most commonly cited features of this complex is the odor of iodine, particularly on drying. I have not been able to detect that odor very clearly in our Western material (nor did A.H. Smith). In the Pacific Northwest there seem to be a number of integrating forms with the much more slender Cortinarius acutus. | ||
