Cortinairus sanguineus (Wulfen) Fr. (1838)                                                          *Collections PNW

The small, fully red Dermocybe is a treat to the eyes when seen in the field, but in my experience it is not very common in the Pacific Northwest. The few collections that I have inspected feature the same small and lightly ornamented spores as described from Europe. There is another closely related species from Sierra Nevada Cortinarius sierraensis.

Spores: 7-8x4-5µ  rather smooth

KOH: red
