Cortinarius semisanguineus  (Fr.) Gillet (1874)                  *Collections: Sweden & Norway

This is one of the classic and most distinctive members of subgenus Dermocybe. The pale brown cap and bright red gills set it apart. There is a plethora of closely aligned species or forms in Western North America that mimic the real C. semisanguineus in many ways, but are not conspecific.
