Cortinarius semisanguineus  s.l.  (Fr.) Gillet (1874)                             *Collections: PNW

These are some Western American collections of the classic Fennoscandian Cortinarius semisanguineus. Overall this is a variable species complex in Western North America that needs to be fully analyzed genetically. There is a little doubt that the Western American species are close relatives to the European, but not exactly the same. A related species is C. phoeniceus var. occidentalis.

Weathered fruitbodies.
