Cortinarius sulphurinus  Quél. 1883                                                               Collection: Europe

This stately Phlegmacium is occur in the montane areas of Europe associated with spruce and pine. There are distant relatives of it in Western North America, but nothing that comes very close. Apparently the epithet is spelled variably -- "sulfurinus" vs. "sulphurinus".

KOH5%: weak reaction, stronger on the pileus.

Spores: 11-13 (14) x (6.3) 7-7.5 (8)µ
