Cortinarius trivialis J.E. Lange (1940) *Collections: California, Europe
This classic Myxacium is associated with broadleaved trees. In Calfiornia it is most common under Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia). Before turning sordid brown, the young fruitbodies exhibit beautiful bluish tinges, which remain most prominent on the gills. The girdled stem is a distinguishing characteristic of this species. The large, coarsely verrucose spores are a typical for this group too. A closely related species from the conifer zone is Cortinarius collinitus. | ||
