This small species occurs frequently in
Sierra Nevada in the Spring soon after snowmelt. It has a distinctive odor,
a combination of farinaceous and fruity. It also occurs in the Fall on the
California coast in mixed forests. In Europe this taxon is described from
broadleaved forests and most illustrated collections show larger
fruitbodies. The question of conspecificity of the Sierran material should
probably be critically examined in the future. |
