Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca  (Wulfen) Maire (1921)

The "False Chanterelle" is one of the most common mushrooms early in the season. Sometimes it fruits when there is nothing else out there. Easily distinguished from he true Chanterelle by its well developed gills. There is also a peculiar bi-forking of the gills that in some cases can be quite symmetric.
