Omphalotus olearius (DC.) Singer (1946) *European collections
The popular name of this mushroom is "Jack O'Lantern" based on its fluorescent capability at night (although that I have never witnessed that phenomenon). The species is quite common early in the season near or on stumps of broadleaved trees, mainly Oaks. A related species from California --.Omphalotus olivascens, also fruits early in the season near Oak stumps, but is distinctly larger and has slightly different colors. |
