This species is locally abundant in a couple of spots near Mendocino, California. My original id was of something close to Hebeloma birrus. Material was sent to the Hebeloma expert Jan Vesterholt and the molecular and morphological results did confirm affinity to Hebeloma birrus, but not sameness.
