Hygrophorus pudorinus  (Fr.) Fr. (1836)                                                      *Collections: Europe

This is one of the classic montane Hygrophori. It is associated mainly with White Fir (Abies alba). In Bulgaria where this photo was taken it is associated with the very similar Bulgarian Fir (Abies borisii-regis). The cones in the photograph above are from Spruce (Picea abies). In California and the PNW there is the similar, but more saturated colored Hygrophorus pudorinus var. fragrans.
