Lactarius alpinus var. mitis Hesler & A.H. Smith (1979) *Collections: California
This interesting milk cap is associated with alder (Alnus viridis) and can be found in montane regions near wet places, seepage areas, along streams, etc. Originally described by Peck from North America, this species has gained acceptance in Europe too. Compare to the very similar European collection of Lactarius alpinus. The California material has a darker cap center. Otherwise the spores are ornamented in a very similar way. . | ||
