Lactarius circellatus var. borealis Hesler & A.H. Smith (1979)               *Collections: Idaho

This species occurs in more Northern conifer forests in Western North America. Said to be uncommon, I have never seen it in Calfiornia. It appears to be somewhat related to the European Lactarius circellatus, but almost certainly needs to have a new species name. Faint vinaceous/purplish discolorations can be observed on the lamellae if one looks closely.
