This is one of the most common milk caps
in the conifer forests of the Pacific Northwest. This species bears certain
resenmblance to the European species Lactarius zonarius/zonaroides
under which name it was known from North America for some time. It is
accounted for being very acrid, but in my experience it was mildly so. All
American authors state that the milk is unchanging, but it becomes whey like
after long exposure and discolors slightly yellow. |
