This is one of the classic Marasmius species with the collar separating the gills from the stipe. It typically grows on small twigs and rotting wood. A similar species, but much smaller and not as frequent that grows on leaves is Marasmius bulliardii. neither of these are known from California. |
Sometimes the collar around the stipe does not appear until full maturity. |
Typically fruits on twigs and small branches. |
