Xerula furfuracea  (Peck) Redhead, Ginns & Shoemaker (1987)     *Collection: New York State

This North American species of Xerula is similar to the European to Xerula radicata, but has a hairy stipe. There are other micro differences too. This species seems to be distrusted along the Eastern USA and doesn't seem to occur in California.

Pileocystidia -- Xerula species, outside of the radicata complex have well pronounced, thick-walled setae. The European X. radicata has none -- the American version: furfuracea is in between.
