Psilocybe crobula   (Fr.) Singer (1962)

Collection: Northern California

This grass dwelling Psilocybe is similar to Psilocybe inquilina, but can be distinguished on account of its smaller spores and longer cheilocystidia. Some authors treats them as conspecific varieties.  Additionally, there is some controversy as far as to the habitat. It is commonly stated that Psilocybe crobula has mainly a lignicolous habit, preferably small branches. Here I follow Guzman's who states that both share predominantly grassy habitat.

Spores: 6-7.3 (7.5) x 4-5.5 (4.8)µ slightly rhomboid

Cheilocystidia: 25-43 x 4-5, forming a sterile band
