This Red & Black (R&B) bruising
Russula stands out with its mildish taste. It is one of the slower
reacting species too -- it's transformation from pink to black is very slow.
This species seems fairly common in the Pacific Northwest under Hemlock and
Spruce. I have not seen it in the California mainland. Generally it tends to
push the hard substrate with difficulty and pulling out a clean and
picture-worthy collection is not easy. |
