Russula californiensis  Burl. (1936)                                                        *Collections: California

This large, viscid, acrid,  red Russula may be endemic to California. Burlingham described it from a park in Monterey in a mixed forest of Monterey Pine and Oaks. The collections listed here are all from under Bishop Pine. This Russula has a distinct gray/blackish discoloration on the stipe where bruised, something that can aid identification.
