This is one of the classic European Russula species, which as the name suggests is associated mainly with Carpinus (Hornbeam trees), but it does occur in montane areas with conifers all around, like Spruce, Fir and Pines.

Spores with isolated warts, which help in differentiating from similar members within its Section.
