Russula mairei Singer (1929)                                                                                    *Collections: Europe
Syn: Russula nobilis

This is one of the most common members of the group of red Russula with whitish spore print. The main species in the group Russula emetica has been described as associated mainly with montane conifers, while this one with beech and other broadleaves. Index Fungorum lists Russula nobilis as the correct name, but here I follow Sarnari and Russulales News., which list mairei as the correct name for now.

Spores with fewer fine connectives than other members of Emeticinae
