Russula ochroleuca  (Pers.) Fr. (1838)                                    *Europe & Eastern North America

This is one of the classic Russula species in the yellow range -- they are not easy to tell apart and microscopy may be necessary. This one has a slightly acrid (but not hot taste) and the lamellae discolor red brown.

Reddish brown bruising reaction on the gills.

Spores: 7-8.5 x 6.4-7µ fine ornamentation of well defined ridges, often networked.
