This ubiquitous mushroom can be seen in
large outcrops in suburbia, wherever woodchips are present. The popular name
is "Highway Stropharia" because it can be seen stretching for miles in the
highway dividers covered by woodchips. The name Stropharia riparia
is almost certainly misapplied though. There is a very strong affinity to
the European concept of Stropharia percevalii, but
conspecificity has not been established. Moreover, there are a couple of
micro differences that will need to analyzed further. |
