Suillus lakei var. lakei (Murrill) Smith & Thiers (1964)
This distinctly scaly Suillus species is one of the frequent associates of Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). With the widespread proliferation of Douglas Fir for the lumber industry in the past century, this Pacific Northwest species has been recognized in Europe too. Some European sources show under a different Genus -- Boletinus lakei. There is a variety pseudopictus, which differs by its reddish stem ornamentation. . |
Suillus lakei is frequently parasitized by Gomphidius subroseus. |
