Suillus sibiricus  (Singer) Singer (1945)

Collection: Oregon, 5-needle pine

This is one of the most distinct Suillus species. The photos here represent two collections that fit the "local concept" of Suillus sibiricus, a World apart. The first is from Oregon and the other from Bulgaria. Out in the North American West, Suillus. sibiricus is found under Larix or Pinus monticola. The reddish scales near the pileus margin and the red discoloration at the bruised lower stipe are cited as distinctive characteristics.

Collection: Bulgaria, Pirin Mountain, 2008-09-13 Elev. 2000m. Picea abies, Pinus spp.
