Suillus brevipes (Peck) Kuntze (1898)

This is one distinctive looking and broadly recognized species due to it's short, ringless stalk. In California I find it abundant in Sierra Nevada under Pines.  Compare to an interesting local species with short stalk and a distinct annulus: Suillus pseudobrevipes.
