Cortinarius duracinus var. raphanicus  M.M. Moser (1967)             *Collections: California

This is one of the anonymous Telamonias that can be seen even in suburbia. The distinct white margin on the cap in young material narrows down the choices somewhat. This species has a strong earthy/raphanoid odor that sets it apart from its sibling Cortinarius duracinus. The occasionally subradicating stipe and fasciculate growth habit are good characters too, but ultimately a bit of microscopy may be needed to solidify any id in this taxonomically difficult group. It is hard to determine whether this is a native or an introduced species in Calfiornia.

Spores: 8-10 x 4.5-6µ
