Cortinarius duracinus  Fr. (1838)                                                                        *Collections: Europe

This anonymous Telamonia can be distinguished by its conifer (mainly Picea) habitat, white rooting stipe (!) and pale context. The spores are on the long side for many species close to it and have a distinctly stronger ornamentation on the back. This one can be confused easily with Cortinarius dolabratus, but upon careful review of the species concepts they can easily be separated. The collection illustrated here is somewhat weathered. There is a variety var. raphanicus with strong odor of radishes when the context is crushed.

Spores: 8.5-10 x 5-6µ medium ornamentation stronger on the back.
